National sprint championship heats up as round two launches in Kampala

The engines came alive along Rubaga Road today as Round Two of the National Sprint Championship officially got underway at the Speedway Motor Garage, drawing an enthusiastic crowd and some of Uganda’s top motorsport talent. The event also marks the sixth round of the National Motocross Championship.

The day’s program was coordinated by Enock Oringa, serving as Clerk of the Course, and Events Manager Omar Mayanja, both of whom emphasized the challenging and competitive nature of this round.

“Competitors should expect an exciting and demanding itinerary,” noted Oringa.

 Fierce competition among riders and drivers

A strong field of drivers and riders turned up, including Ronald Sebuguzi, Umar Mayanja, Samuel Watendwa, Ibrahim Lubega Pasuwa, and Yusuf Bukenya, among others. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and rivalry, especially in the two-wheel category, where Ibrahim Lubega Pasuwa and Samuel Watendwa exchanged confident predictions.

The two riders openly vowed to outperform each other ahead of the main competition, adding drama and energy to the day’s proceedings.

A crucial stop before the rally championship

According to one team representative, the Rubaga event serves as crucial preparation for drivers looking ahead to the fifth round of the National Rally Championship, set for August.

All eyes are also on Oscar Ntambi, who leads the Sprint Championship standings after his victory in the first round held in Garuga. Spectators and teams alike are eager to see whether he can maintain his lead on the Kampala track.
