Mubiru to lead Gaddafi FC into Premier League debut as new head coach

In a move that signals serious intent ahead of their maiden Uganda Premier League (UPL) campaign, Gaddafi Football Club has unveiled Abdallah Mubiru as their new head coach. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, with Mubiru signing a two-year contract to lead the Entebbe-based side as they step into top-flight football for the first time in club history.

A respected name returns to the top

Mubiru’s appointment brings renewed energy and optimism to a football-loving community that hasn’t tasted Premier League action since Masavu FC’s relegation in the 2017/18 season. For many fans in Entebbe, his arrival marks not just a coaching change but a football revival.

A former Uganda Cranes international, Mubiru made his name as a composed and tactically astute defensive midfielder during his playing days. Now a CAF “A” licensed coach, he carries an impressive coaching résumé that includes stints with Police FC and the national team.

A strategic appointment

Gaddafi FC, owned by the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC), made the coaching vacancy public earlier this year, attracting a competitive pool of applicants. After a rigorous selection process, Mubiru emerged as the standout candidate, praised for both his technical acumen and leadership pedigree.

He succeeds Robert “Kiyenje” Mukasa, the coach who guided Gaddafi FC to historic promotion from the FUFA Big League, Uganda’s second-tier division. While Mukasa’s contribution will not be forgotten, Mubiru’s appointment reflects the club’s ambition to build on that momentum with top-level experience.

“This is a massive opportunity—not just for me, but for Gaddafi FC and the people of Entebbe,” Mubiru is quoted as saying. “We’re ready to compete, to grow, and to represent the region with pride.”

Premier League challenge

As Gaddafi FC gears up for its debut in the Uganda Premier League, Mubiru’s leadership is expected to play an important role in shaping a competitive and resilient squad. His vast knowledge of the local game, player development, and tactical flexibility will be essential in navigating the tough terrain of Uganda’s top division.

The club has yet to confirm its full technical bench or player transfers for the new season, but with Mubiru now at the helm, preparations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

Gaddafi FC’s promotion and Mubiru’s appointment mark a new chapter; not just for the club, but for the town of Entebbe. After years in the football shadows, the community is once again on the national stage, and under Abdallah Mubiru, the mission is clear: compete, survive, and thrive.
