Ugandans promised affordable tickets for CHAN 2024-25

Kampala, Uganda — Football fans in Uganda can look forward to pocket-friendly ticket prices for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024-2025, following reassurances from the Local Organizing Committee (LoC) during a press briefing held Monday in Lugogo.

Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, Chairperson of the LoC’s Communications and Signage Committee, confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has recommended a tiered pricing structure designed to make the tournament accessible to all Ugandans.

“CAF advised us to adopt an affordable model; $1 for ordinary tickets, $2 for VIP, and $3 for VVIP,” Mugimba said. “The final prices will be officially announced by the end of next week.”

Logistics

While excitement builds ahead of the August tournament, Mugimba acknowledged some logistical delays tied to CAF’s strict procurement protocols. He assured the public that all essential services, including ticketing, advertising, and transport, would be in place well before kick-off.

“We are adhering to CAF procedures. Everything will be finalized on time,” he emphasized.

Government commitment

Uganda has already made substantial financial commitments toward hosting the championship. These include:

  • $13 million paid for CHAN 2024

  • $30 million towards hosting AFCON 2027

  • $750,000 for new LED screens at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole

These investments reflect the government’s commitment to delivering a world-class tournament and elevating Uganda’s standing in African football.

Accommodation and transport readiness

Seven top-tier hotels; Kampala Serena, Four Points by Sheraton, Hilton Garden Inn, Skyz Naguru, and Sheraton Kampala among them have been earmarked to host teams and officials.

On the transport front, 100 vehicles used during the recent Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit will be repurposed for CHAN. Additional vehicles are being sourced to ensure seamless mobility for teams and guests.

Medical support will be provided by top facilities including Mulago Hospital, Victoria University Hospital, Kisubi, Nakasero, and Entebbe Hospitals.

National pride

In a bid to unite the nation and build momentum ahead of the tournament, the CHAN trophy will embark on a regional tour.

“CHAN 2024 isn’t just about football; it’s about showcasing Uganda to the continent,” Mugimba declared. “We want every Ugandan to feel part of this journey.”

The Pamoja Visa

To ease entry into host nations; Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania through the organizing committee are finalizing the “Pamoja Visa”, a single-entry pass that will simplify access for accredited journalists and potentially for fans traveling across borders.

Leadership in unity

Mugimba was joined at the briefing by key members of the CHAN/AFCON communications team, including: Mark Namanya, CHAN/AFCON PR Manager, Rodgers Mulindwa – LoC Communications Vice Chair, and William Fredrick Blick, LoC Ex Officio Member

With a united front, Uganda’s LoC is making strides towards hosting a successful and inclusive CHAN 2024, one that promises not only thrilling football but also a celebration of Ugandan hospitality, culture, and national pride.
