48 arrested in Kajjansi Police operation targeting crime hotspots

Kampala, Uganda – Police in Kajjansi Division under Kampala Metropolitan South have arrested 48 suspected criminals during a targeted operation conducted in the early hours of July 1, 2025.

The intelligence-led crackdown, which began at approximately 3:30 a.m., was aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in known black spots within Lweza and surrounding areas.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the operation followed actionable intelligence indicating that certain individuals frequently gathered, gambled, and loitered in these locations with criminal intent.

Suspects were apprehended from three key areas: Muchanga, Kajjansi, and Sanyu Brothel one of the most notorious hotspots. In Muchanga, police say groups of youth had been posing as bottle and dustbin collectors during the day, but at night turned to criminal activity, including home break-ins and robbery.

During the operation, officers recovered a number of housebreaking tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and knives. These were secured as evidence, and statements were recorded from both complainants and the arresting officers.

All 48 suspects, most of whom are between 17 and 23 years old, are currently detained at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations. Investigations are ongoing ahead of their appearance in court.

ASP Owoyesigyire reiterated the police’s commitment to community safety, noting that disrupting such criminal networks remains a top priority. He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to support police efforts in ensuring safer neighborhoods.
