Police sweep Kampala crime hotspots, arrest over 100 suspects
Uganda Police Force has intensified operations against criminal activity in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, resulting in the arrest of more than 100 suspects in coordinated security crackdowns targeting known crime hotspots.
According to police, the operations are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug abuse, robbery, theft, and other unlawful activities that threaten public safety.
On February 1, 2026, at around 11:00 p.m., a joint security operation was conducted in Kigombya, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District. The operation targeted a mapped-out black spot long associated with criminal activity. Eleven suspects were arrested from the area, which police say has been used by criminals to smoke marijuana, waylay pedestrians, and rob members of the public. All suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue ahead of prosecution.
In a separate operation carried out on January 30, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Kampala Central Police Station (CPS), working with local leaders, conducted a disruptive operation codenamed “Fukuza Mafisadi.” The operation covered several high-traffic and business areas including Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, the Electoral Commission area, and Mukwano.
Police said the operation targeted groups of youths who loiter in identified black spots before engaging in crimes such as snatching mobile phones and handbags, as well as stealing vehicle parts from motorists stuck in traffic congestion.
A total of 100 suspects were arrested during the CPS-led operation and are expected to be produced in court today, February 2, 2026.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order across the Kampala Metropolitan Area and called upon members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
