PEAS Uganda donates building materials to improve boarding at Isingiro Primary School

PEAS Uganda has donated building materials to Green Valley Primary School in Ruborogota, Isingiro District, to support the renovation of the school’s boarding facilities.

The donation, comprising cement, sand, bricks, and paint, is intended to improve accommodation for pupils who reside at the school. The materials were handed over by PEAS Uganda Deputy Country Director Daniel Kyasanga during a visit to the school.

Kyasanga said the support was aimed at strengthening early learning environments that prepare pupils for secondary education. He noted that many learners who later join PEAS-supported secondary schools come from rural primary institutions facing infrastructure challenges.

Green Valley Primary School Director Alex Karyamarwaki said the renovation would address long-standing accommodation needs for boarding pupils. He said the school has struggled to maintain its facilities due to limited resources.

Local leaders said the initiative could help improve retention and learning outcomes. Ronald Sseguya, LCIII Chairperson of Ruborogota, noted that education infrastructure in the area has gradually improved since the establishment of PEAS Frontiers Secondary School in 2015.

During the same visit, PEAS Uganda staff also donated mattresses and bicycles to PEAS Frontiers Secondary School to support boarding students and ease transportation challenges for day scholars.

Green Valley Primary School enrolls about 550 pupils, including 86 boarders and four learners with disabilities. The school sends between 10 and 15 pupils annually to PEAS Frontiers Secondary School, according to school records.

Education stakeholders in the district have previously raised concerns about limited boarding facilities and learning resources in rural primary schools, challenges that continue to affect access and retention, particularly for vulnerable learners.
