Manchester United land Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens in €21m deal

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for an initial €21m (£18.1m) plus add-ons.

The 23-year-old is set to travel to Manchester to complete a medical and put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Old Trafford. His arrival ends United’s pursuit of Aston Villa’s World Cup-winning keeper Emiliano Martinez.

United have been eager to reinforce their goalkeeping department, with Altay Bayindir struggling in league games and last season’s No.1 Andre Onana recently blamed for a costly error in the club’s shock EFL Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby.

Head coach Ruben Amorim admitted the pressure of the role, saying after the 3-2 win over Burnley:

“I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment.”

Club insiders describe Lammens as an exciting young talent with huge potential, earmarked as a long-term solution between the posts at Old Trafford.
