Yasin Nasser keeps focus ahead of crucial Tanzania rally

Ugandan rally driver Yasin Nasser is keeping his eyes firmly on the finish line as he prepares to compete in the Mkwawa Tanzania International Rally this Saturday and Sunday.

Nasser currently leads the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) standings with 118 points, holding a slim 12-point advantage over his closest rival, Kenya’s Samman Vohra (106 points). Despite the pressure of the title race, Nasser insists his approach will remain calm and calculated.

“We are not going to drive under pressure. We shall drive our way, focused on finishing the rally,” Nasser said.

His navigator, Ali Katumba, echoed the same confidence, stressing that the crew has a clear strategy in place and will not be forced to deviate from it.

On the other side, Vohra is also refusing to be drawn into a pressure battle, promising to take each stage as it comes.

In today’s qualifying stage, Vohra set the pace with a time of 4:15.7, ahead of Karan Patel (4:17.8) and Ahmed Huwei (4:20.8). Nasser settled for fourth, clocking 4:36.5.

With only seven contenders left in the ARC title chase, Nasser needs a top-three finish in Tanzania to secure the 2025 Africa Rally Championship crown. Action continues tomorrow along the demanding Dodoma Road stages, where every second will count in this season-defining showdown.
