Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba crowned 2025 African Rally Champions in dramatic finale

Ugandan crew Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba are the new 2025 African Rally Champions, sealing the title in dramatic fashion as the African Rally Championship season wrapped up in Morogoro, Tanzania, on Sunday.

Heading into the decisive round with an eight-point lead over Kenya’s Samman Vohra, Nasser and Katumba adopted a cautious approach in their Ford Fiesta R2. Vohra, meanwhile, came out aggressively and ended Saturday’s leg in the lead, with Nasser sitting in fourth and facing the threat of a final-day upset.

Sunday’s closing leg carried everything at stake. A win for Vohra would have secured him his maiden continental crown in his debut full ARC season. For Nasser, any slip by his rival would be crucial in protecting his championship advantage.

The twist came courtesy of double African champion Karan Patel, who mounted a late surge to snatch the rally lead from Vohra. Patel’s victory, coupled with maximum points from the power stage, reshuffled the standings and ultimately handed the championship crown to Nasser and Katumba.
