Vipers SC withdraws from UPL fixture against Kitara in protest over new format

Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC has officially confirmed that they will not participate in their upcoming league match against Kitara FC.

The decisive announcement was made on Thursday, October 2, 2025, through a statement released on the club’s official website.

“Vipers Sports Club informs its stakeholders, football fans, and the general public that the club will not take part in the new double-header format game against Kitara,” the statement read in part.

The decision comes just a day before the fixture was scheduled to be played, highlighting escalating tensions between the league’s governing body and one of Uganda’s most successful clubs.

Vipers, based in Kitende, have been openly critical of the new double-header format, accusing FUFA of ignoring their concerns. The club insists their withdrawal is not just an act of defiance but a demonstration of their commitment to protecting the integrity of the game and pushing for a league system that respects all stakeholders.

The statement concluded by thanking fans, genuine football lovers, and stakeholders for their continued support in the club’s pursuit of fair play and proper governance.
