Uganda Cranes decide winning is fun, flatten Mozambique 4-0 to reach second

The Uganda Cranes turned on the style with a resounding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, climbing to second place in Group G on Friday night.

Skipper Khalid Aucho marshalled the midfield brilliantly, while forward Salim added pace and creativity to the attack. After a cagey first half, Allan Okello finally broke the deadlock in the 48th minute with a fine finish.

Rogers Mato doubled the advantage midway through the second half before netting again in the 84th minute to put the contest out of sight. Defender Elio Capradossi added the icing on the cake with a stoppage-time strike, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.

  • Uganda – 12 points (Goal difference: +3)

Uganda’s emphatic win lifts them level with Mozambique on 12 points, but a superior goal difference puts the Cranes in second place. Algeria remain six points clear at the top, while Guinea and Botswana remain within touching distance in a tight race for qualification.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among hailed the team on X, writing: “Keep the goals coming! Uganda Cranes, we go.”

The ruling NRM Party also celebrated the victory, posting: “Congratulations Uganda Cranes for that solid 4:0 performance against Mozambique in the #WCQUALIFIERS. Let’s keep the momentum.”

With three matchdays remaining, Uganda’s qualification dream is alive and well. The Cranes must now build on this momentum in their next fixtures as they look to keep pace with Algeria and stay ahead of their regional rivals.
