UCC restores internet services as Uganda returns to digital normalcy

Internet services have been fully restored across Uganda, marking a return to normal online access after a period of restrictions during the electoral season.

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) announced on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 12:40 PM that internet services nationwide had been fully reinstated following the successful completion of necessary technical and security assessments. The Commission confirmed that the public can now freely access the internet and all online platforms without limitation.

Earlier in the day, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, welcomed the development and expressed gratitude to Ugandans for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout the electoral period. In a message shared on social media at 9:28 AM, the CDF praised citizens for their resilience and unity, noting that their conduct gave leaders the courage to serve the nation.

The UCC thanked the public for their understanding during the period of limited access and reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the digital space to ensure a safe, stable, and reliable online environment for all users.

The full restoration of internet services signals a key step towards normalcy, enabling communication, commerce, and access to digital services as the country moves forward beyond the election period.
