Speaker Anita Among urges Masindi residents to back NRM flag bearers

The Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, has urged the people of Masindi District to vote exclusively for NRM flag bearers in the forthcoming 2026 elections. She delivered this message on 10 December 2025 during President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign rally at the Golf Course Grounds in Masindi Municipality.

Among compared national leadership to a bus that cannot move unless all its four tyres are functional. She explained that these tyres represent Members of Parliament, the LC5 chairperson and councilors, the Mayor and municipal councilors, and the LC3 chairpersons and councilors. According to her, the President cannot effectively lead the country without these structures supporting him. She criticized opposition Members of Parliament for failing to debate issues that benefit communities and noted that this limits service delivery, including opportunities such as ministerial appointments. She also thanked Masindi residents for supporting the NRM under the leadership of Princess Kabakumba Labwoni Matsiko Abwooli.

Among introduced all NRM flag bearers from Masindi during the event. She began with Byamukama Rogers, the candidate for Masindi Municipality, whom she described as a hardworking individual who deserves a chance. She then presented Akugizibwe Alled Ronald, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Buruli County, praising him as a good teacher who once worked at her school in Bukedea. She also introduced Honorable Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bujenje County, saying he is a disciplined and noncontroversial legislator who has consistently served his people well. Dr Florence Asiimwe, the Woman Member of Parliament for Masindi District, was recognized for her analytical mind, her work on the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, and her leadership of the Science and Technology Committee.

The Speaker highlighted government support through the Parish Development Model, Emyooga and the one billion shilling road fund. She stressed the need for leaders who can properly account for these resources and introduced Godfrey Byarugaba as the NRM flag bearer for LC5 chairperson. She also presented Amanyire Rogers Mulindwa, the NRM mayoral flag bearer for Masindi Municipality, thanking him for crossing from the Forum for Democratic Change to the NRM and encouraging other opposition members to follow suit.

Each flag bearer addressed the gathering. Byamukama Rogers thanked residents of Masindi Municipality for trusting him with the party flag and asked them to vote for him on 15 January 2026. Akugizibwe Alled Ronald expressed gratitude to the people of Buruli County for supporting him throughout his term and promised to continue his work. Kenneth Kiiza Nyendwoha thanked the people of Bujenje for their support in improving roads, clean water supply and household incomes and asked them to vote for both President Museveni and himself. Dr Florence Asiimwe thanked Masindi residents for standing with her and pledged to continue serving all parts of the district. Godfrey Byarugaba said he intends to end leadership conflicts in the district and promote equitable service delivery and asked voters to endorse him on 22 January 2026. Amanyire Rogers Mulindwa called on the people to vote for President Museveni, citing promises such as the construction of a central market and the continuation of USMID projects, and asked for their support on 27 January 2026.

Among invited David Kabanda, the Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda, to clarify the relationship between PLU and the NRM. Kabanda relayed greetings from General Muhoozi Kainerugaba and said that PLU is currently working hand in hand with the NRM. He explained that PLU has not fielded any candidates against NRM flag bearers anywhere in the country. He encouraged Karuhanga John to support the NRM team and Karuhanga agreed, saying he did so in respect of his ten year friendship with Speaker Among. He publicly endorsed all the flag bearers.

In her concluding remarks, the Speaker thanked residents for supporting the NRM and urged them to vote for President Museveni whom she described as the only candidate with a clear and complete manifesto. She highlighted several planned and ongoing projects such as the Ikoba Ntooma road, the Masindi Port Bridge connecting Kiryandongo and Apac and the expansion of USMID works in the municipality. She acknowledged government investment in schools and hospitals including the renovation of the Bikunya dormitory at Kabalega Secondary School and works at Kikingura War Memorial School in Bwijanga Subcounty.

Among praised farmers in Masindi for transitioning from subsistence to commercial agriculture and announced that government is procuring tractors to support mechanisation and value addition. She urged youth and women to form groups that can benefit from government funding aimed at improving livelihoods. She concluded by revealing plans to construct a modern central market in Masindi Municipality and assured residents that if Byamukama Rogers is elected as Member of Parliament for Masindi Municipality, government will construct a stadium similar to the one she has in Bukedea which is managed by Byamukama.
