Sebuguzi and Mugambwa claim sprint championship round 2 victory at Festino City
Ronald Sebuguzi and co-driver Anthony Mugambwa stole the show in Round 2 of the Sprint Championship at Festino City. Behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta Proto, the NRC table leader clocked an impressive 2 minutes and 30 seconds, narrowly beating closest rivals John Semudu and Eric Senono, who were driving a Subaru N8, by just one second.
For Semudu, this was only his second competitive career event, making the result a remarkable achievement. Another surprise came from the duo of Nasib Sesanga and Shayan Mawejje, who drove a Toyota Celica pickup to third place, finishing 12 seconds behind Semudu.
“I am so thankful to Robert Sentongo of Nkima Rally Team, who sold me this car at a friendly price because he believed in me and knew I was passionate about this sport. I am still a rookie, but if I can share a podium with Sebuguzi, then I am destined for great things,” Semudu said.
The event attracted 50 drivers, though only 32 managed to cross the finish line. Proceeds from the championship went toward supporting 2019 2WD champion Samuel Watendwa in his bid to acquire a new four-wheel-drive rally car.
“First of all, I thank all the fans and fellow drivers who turned up for the event, and I appeal to well-wishers to continue supporting me because we have not had the best outcome as anticipated,” Watendwa noted.
Having competed in the 2WD class for over 10 years, Watendwa is now targeting an upgrade to a Subaru N14 four-wheel-drive car, which will allow him to compete more favorably in the National Rally Championship.
All participants in the event were awarded certificates and trophies, marking the conclusion of a thrilling motorsport outing at Festino City.
