“On the road to surgery and full recovery” – Weasel speaks out after domestic incident involving wife Sandra Teta

Popular Ugandan musician Douglas Mayanja, known professionally as Weasel, has broken his silence after sustaining serious injuries in an alleged domestic altercation with his wife, Sandra Teta. The incident occurred late Wednesday night at Shans Bar, located in Munyonyo, Makindye Division, Kampala.

According to police, Teta is accused of intentionally knocking Weasel down three times using a white Mercedes Benz, registration number UBH 148Y, following a domestic dispute that escalated publicly. The artist sustained multiple fractures in one of his legs and is now undergoing treatment at Nsambya Hospital, where he awaits surgery.

Speaking on behalf of the police, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest of Sandra Teta and strongly condemned the act, labeling it both deliberate and unacceptable, regardless of domestic issues.

“We are investigating an incident that happened at Shans Bar involving a woman, Sandra Teta, who intentionally knocked down her husband,” Owoyesigyire stated. “Eyewitnesses confirmed it was intentional. Whether or not Weasel decides to pursue the case, we will consult the State Attorney on the next legal steps.”

He added that such violence has no place in society, emphasizing that the police take the incident seriously and are committed to ensuring justice is served.

Teta, now detained at Kabalagala Police Station, allegedly told detectives that a domestic quarrel had begun earlier in the day when Weasel chased her and their children out of their home. After seeking help from her in-laws and being told to return, she claims the abuse continued when she went back home, and later escalated when Weasel left for Shans Bar.

“When I returned, Weasel continued abusing and assaulting me. He then drove to the bar, and I followed him there. We quarreled again, and I later entered the vehicle and knocked him down,” she is quoted as saying in her preliminary statement.
