Nyege Nyege shifts festival from Jinja to Kalagala for its 10th Anniversary
As Nyege Nyege Festival marks its 10th year, it is setting off on a new journey leaving behind its longtime home in Jinja to embrace the breathtaking Kalagala Falls, located in Uganda’s Kayunga District. Set to take place from November 20 to 23, 2025, this year’s edition is themed “Ekigunda ky’Omuliro – The Gathering of the Flame,” reflecting a decade of resilience, creativity, and community.
What began in 2015 as a modest underground gathering has blossomed into a powerful cultural movement. Nyege Nyege has always been more than just music it’s a celebration of experimental and electronic sounds rooted in African rhythms, a bold platform where emerging artists and free spirits come together to challenge norms and express identity.
Jinja, with its roaring rapids and the legendary source of the Nile, nurtured Nyege Nyege through its early years. But as the festival evolved and its pulse grew louder, so did its need for a space that could match its expanding vision. It was time to find a home not just for the event, but for the spirit behind it.
Now, nestled at Kalagala Falls in Kayunga District, just 35 minutes from Jinja town, Nyege Nyege’s 10th edition promises a more immersive experience than ever before.
The festival returns to Uganda’s sacred Kalagala Falls with over 300 artists, six stages, and a rich cultural program spanning music, fashion, film, and food marking a decade of fearless, boundary-pushing African creativity.
“We’re not just celebrating 10 years,” the organizers shared. “We’re honoring a journey that’s about people, music, nature, and community: everything that makes Nyege Nyege what it is today. Kalagala is our new home and here, the flame will continue to burn bright.”
For many attendees, Nyege Nyege is a place of belonging and discovery where cultures collide, friendships form, and new sounds push the boundaries of imagination.
The festival’s new location not only offers scenic beauty and spiritual depth but is also strategically accessible: 2.5 hours from Kampala, 3.5 hours from Entebbe International Airport, and 6 hours by road from Nairobi, Kenya.
As Nyege Nyege enters its tenth year at a new home, the move to Kalagala Falls marks a fresh chapter for the festival. With more space, deeper community engagement, and a renewed focus on creativity, the celebration continues inviting thousands to experience music, culture, and connection along the Nile.
