Nubian Li recounts arrest ordeal after nomination

Kampala, Uganda – Musician and politician Ali Buken, better known as Nubian Li, has spoken out following his brief arrest outside the Electoral Commission (EC) offices in Ntinda, where he had just been nominated for the position of Nakawa Mayor.

Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nubian Li thanked his supporters for their concern and messages of solidarity. He stated that he was picked up by security forces shortly after his nomination, driven around “in circles,” and later dropped off at his home.

“Thank you all, comrades and friends, for your concern and messages of solidarity. I was arrested at the EC offices right after my nomination. After being driven around in circles, they eventually dropped me off at home. They claimed I was planning to hold a procession,” Nubian Li wrote.

Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya had condemned the incident, describing it as part of a broader wave of arrests and abductions targeting opposition leaders and supporters.

Authorities have not issued an official response to the arrest or the claims raised.

This remains a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
