National Go-Kart championship roars to life with 22 drivers

Uganda’s fastest growing motorsport kicks off with high speed and high hopes
The National Go-Kart Championship has officially launched, bringing together 22 drivers in what is quickly becoming Uganda’s fastest growing sport.
Defending champion Kevin Bebeto made a strong return in the season opener, finishing second behind race winner Matano Andrew in an intense and thrilling contest.
The championship will unfold over six competitive rounds, with top drivers battling for national glory and a chance to elevate the sport’s profile.
Motorsport veteran and go-karting mentor Kuku Ranjit urged parents to expose young talent to the discipline early.
“I wish go-karting had existed when I was younger. I would have been even better than many top drivers back then,” he remarked during the event.
Raynold Kibira, Assistant Deputy Vice President of the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU), praised the event’s success and emphasized the federation’s long-term support.
“We are committed to developing go-karting in Uganda. Our priorities include upgrading tracks and ensuring fair and consistent kart performance across the board,” he said.
Winners in various categories were awarded medals and cartons of soda in celebration of their achievements an encouraging step for young and emerging drivers.
Looking ahead, Albert Ofong, Vice President of F1 Uganda, confirmed plans for an international tour.
Ugandan teams will have the opportunity to compete on global circuits in Dubai and Malaysia, giving local talent international exposure and experience.
The championship’s momentum marks an exciting chapter in Uganda’s motorsports journey, offering both a competitive outlet and a training ground for future stars.
