Museveni unveils infrastructure gains and future plans for Rwenzori Sub-region
Kasese, Uganda — President Yoweri Museveni, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has taken his campaign to the Rwenzori Sub-region, focusing on ongoing development projects and the region’s sustained peace.
During a rally in Kasese District, Museveni emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the area, including efforts to repair the old railway line from Malaba and plans to construct a new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). He also outlined ambitions to build an international airport to boost tourism and improve connectivity along the Rwenzori corridor.
Museveni highlighted key achievements made by the NRM over the past 40 years, pointing to improvements in infrastructure such as roads and electricity. He stressed the importance of prioritization in development projects, noting that focused resource allocation has driven progress across Kasese and other parts of Uganda.
On electrification, Museveni noted that all districts now have power connections except for Buvuma Island, with ongoing efforts to extend electricity to every sub-county.
The campaign continued in Bunyangabu District, where Museveni praised the peace Uganda has enjoyed for decades as a foundation for development. He pointed to the growth in educational facilities, highlighting that Bunyangabu now has eight government secondary schools compared to just six A-level schools nationwide in 1961.
While acknowledging delays on the Mityana–Mubende–Fort Portal road due to resource challenges, Museveni expressed confidence that better prioritization by younger cadres would ensure its completion.
The campaign tour in the Rwenzori Sub-region reinforces Museveni’s message of protecting the gains made under NRM leadership and continuing Uganda’s development journey ahead of the 2026 general elections.
