Museveni pitches roads, health upgrades in Rwampara and Mbarara

President Yoweri Museveni on Monday resumed his campaign trail with stops in Rwampara and later Mbarara City, using the visits to revisit his personal history in the region and outline infrastructure and service-delivery priorities.

Addressing supporters in Rwampara, Museveni recalled previous visits to Bujaga dating back nearly seven decades, including passages made during the 1979 and 1985 conflict periods. He contrasted those experiences with what he described as the current state of relative peace in the area.

The President pointed to ongoing and planned development projects, including upgrades on the Buteraniro–Bugamba–Rwoho–Bukoni–Kitwe road and the Ruti–Mwizi–Kikagate road. He also reiterated government plans to expand irrigation and urged residents to protect wetlands. According to Museveni, all sub-counties in the district have access to electricity, and government intends to elevate one Health Centre IV to district-hospital status.

In Mbarara, Museveni again drew parallels between the region’s past insecurity and what he characterised as improved stability nationwide. He attributed the calm to the ruling NRM’s political approach and warned against the return of sectarian politics.

He also announced that Nyakishara had been identified by foreign partners as the proposed location for a new international airport, expected to be comparable in scale to Entebbe International Airport. The government has not yet released timelines or financing details for the project.

Additional road works highlighted include plans to upgrade the Bwizibwera–Nsika–Nyakashaka–Nyakabirizi road and the Biharwe–Rwantysinga–Kaguhanzya–Bwentama–Bwizibwera route. Museveni said the region’s economic growth reflects the benefits of long-term stability.
