Museveni commissions Acomai irrigation scheme and gives out cows in Bukedea

Bukedea, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commissioned the Acomai Irrigation Scheme in Kamutur, Bukedea District, marking a major milestone in efforts to boost agricultural productivity in the Teso Sub-region.

Addressing hundreds of residents during the commissioning ceremony, President Museveni hailed the project as a transformative initiative that will ensure reliable water for farming throughout the year. He urged farmers to utilize the scheme effectively to increase production and mitigate the effects of climate change.

“God gave us dominion over nature, and this is proof to that effect,” President Museveni said. “Take the water from the swamp to the dry land and irrigate. When you do that, you are helping God to make rain in the months when He doesn’t bring it.”

The President emphasized that irrigation not only boosts agricultural yields but also helps in flood control, serving the dual purpose of “production and protection.”

While highlighting the peace and stability that Uganda has enjoyed under the National Resistance Movement (NRM), President Museveni attributed the country’s progress to the party’s “correct ideology.” He noted that the end of insurgencies and cattle rustling had paved the way for development projects such as roads, schools, health centers, and power extensions across the region.

“Because of the correct ideology of the NRM, we stopped the wars, ended cattle rustling, and built an island of peace that now hosts 1.9 million refugees,” he said. “With peace, we have delivered roads, electricity, water, schools, and health facilities. I thank the people of Teso for standing firm with us. Let us finish the journey together. Vote for the NRM for continued peace and prosperity.”

The President concluded his campaign trail in the Teso Sub-region with a grand rally in Bukedea, where he thanked residents for their unwavering support for the NRM. He also congratulated Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among and other NRM members who were elected unopposed, describing their victory as a sign of the people’s trust in experienced leadership.

“This shows the people’s confidence in tested leadership and saves us from wasting resources in unnecessary competition,” he remarked.

The commissioning of the Acomai Irrigation Scheme is expected to enhance agricultural productivity and support the government’s vision of transforming Uganda from a subsistence to a modern, market-oriented economy.
