Kenya finishes top of Group A, Morocco sends DR Congo crashing out

Kenya’s Harambee Stars have finished top of Group A in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a 1-0 win over Zambia, securing a spot in the quarterfinals. Ryan Ogam’s 75th-minute strike, assisted by Boniface Muchiri, sealed the victory and sent the home fans into celebrations. This win earned Kenya 10 points in the group stage, and they’ll now face Madagascar at the Kasarani Stadium on Friday, August 22, at 5 pm.
In the other Group A match, Morocco defeated DR Congo 3-1, with Oussama Lamlaoui scoring a brace and Mohamed Hrimat adding a third. DR Congo’s Kitambala scored a consolation goal. Morocco finished second in the group with 9 points and will face hosts Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on the same day at 8 pm.

The Harambee Stars’ win over Zambia not only secured their top spot in Group A but also earned each player a KSh 2.5 million reward from President William Ruto, bringing their total earnings to KSh 5 million for the group stage. If they make it to the semifinals, they’ll receive an additional KSh 1 million, and the team is also promised affordable housing units if they succeed in the tournament.
