Kampala University launches revamped team to reclaim Pepsi University Football League title glory

The two time Pepsi University Football League champions, Kampala University (KU), have officially launched their campaign to recapture past glory, unveiling a 30-man squad for the highly anticipated 2025/26 season.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held at Ham Stadium, Nakivubo, presided over by the University’s Senior Sports Tutor, Martha Soigi. Soigi, who is also an aspiring AUUS First Vice President, charged the team with a clear mission to aim high and bring the trophy back to Ggaba for the first time since 2016.

This season’s squad signals a significant refresh, driven by a major regulatory change. The University Sports governing body’s recent amendment, which bars players holding Masaza Cup licences from the league, has forced a strategic overhaul. In response, KU has drafted in nearly 15 new faces to bolster its ranks.

The new recruits include goalkeepers Wafula David and Al-haji Ahmed Najib, alongside a host of outfield reinforcements in Oyoit Felix, Opio John Mark, Epaja James, Wagoina Fahad, Mulooki Mubarak, Okia Abraham Junior, Kizito Adiru, Wasswa Martin Mulumba, Nuwandida Ivan, Kinyera Martin, Katula Eric, and Kirwana Abdul Karim.

Despite the influx of new talent, the squad retains a core of experienced leaders to guide the transition. This includes captain Mulamba Abbey, last season’s top scorer Wanume Gilbert, and assistant captain Nsubuga Benjamin.

Drawn into a competitive Group A, the Ggaba-based side faces a tough path, pitted against defending champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU), Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Mountains of the Moon University (MMU), University of Kisubi (UNIK), and Kampala International University (KIU).

The quest for the title begins immediately with a stern test. KU will kick off its campaign this Thursday against holders Uganda Martyrs University at Ham Stadium, Nakivubo. Steering the technical bench once again is head coach Vincent Tumusiime, popularly known as Titi Kamara, who will be tasked with blending the new squad into a cohesive, title-challenging unit.
