Hoima City Stadium nears completion, Promises a new era for Ugandan sports

The Stadium as of end of July
Uganda is getting ready to unveil one of its most ambitious sports infrastructure projects as construction of the Hoima City Stadium nears completion. Located in the oil-rich city of Hoima, the stadium is set to become a major hub for sports and large-scale events in Western Uganda and beyond.
A Modern Stadium Ready for Global and Local Action
The stadium will accommodate approximately 20,000 spectators and will host football matches, athletics competitions, and cultural events. It includes modern amenities such as VIP lounges, media centers, locker rooms, and international-standard floodlights for night games. The venue also offers parking for over 1,000 vehicles, making it well-equipped for high-attendance events.
Uganda plans to use the stadium as a key venue when it co-hosts the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Kenya and Tanzania. By expanding its sports infrastructure, the country aims to boost sports tourism and attract both local and international visitors helping stimulate Hoima’s growing economy.

Community Impact and Growing Anticipation
Beyond hosting international matches, the stadium will support local sports development. Regional leagues, school competitions, and community events will gain access to a professional-level venue something the area has long needed.
Residents of Hoima see more than just a sports facility. Business owners expect increased activity as crowds bring new opportunities, and youth coaches look forward to mentoring young talent in a better-equipped environment.
Construction teams began work in 2024, using a mix of government funding and private investment. While weather and logistical issues caused a few delays, workers have steadily pushed the project forward. Officials now plan to hold the grand opening before the end of 2025.
As the final touches go in, excitement continues to build. Fans, athletes, and locals alike are ready to welcome top-tier matches and live entertainment right in their own backyard.
