Gulu rally to honor Late Rajiv Ruparelia in penultimate NRC round
The penultimate round of the National Rally Championship (NRC), slated for October 9–12 in Gulu, northern Uganda, will be remembered for more than just the battle for points. The event will pay tribute to the late Rajiv Ruparelia, a patron of Central Motor Club (CMC) and competitor, who tragically lost his life in a car crash in May this year.
Though gone too soon, Rajiv’s legacy continues to shine in Ugandan motorsport. His entry into the sport brought numerous positives, particularly for CMC, where he inspired growth and pushed events beyond Kampala into upcountry regions. In Gulu, the club has pledged to keep his philanthropic spirit alive by integrating community-oriented initiatives alongside the rally action.
As the second-last round of the NRC, the Gulu Rally carries immense weight in shaping the title race before the grand finale in November. Championship leader Ponsiano Lwakataka heads into the event with momentum, and another victory could strengthen his grip on the crown.
The rally will run from Friday through Saturday, promising both high octane action and a heartfelt tribute to a man whose influence extended beyond the racetrack.
