Final preparations in full swing as CHAN 2024 kicks off this Saturday

Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania gear up to co-host historic CHAN tournament

With the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to begin this Saturday, final preparations are nearing completion across Uganda, one of the tournament’s three co-hosts.

At Kampala’s iconic Namboole Stadium, crews have installed video cameras at multiple angles to ensure comprehensive match coverage. Fans will also witness a first for CHAN: the debut of Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) technology in the tournament.

Final rehearsals concluded this week at the stadium, where organizers have raised flags representing all participating nations. The venue has also been upgraded with new LCD screens for live match updates, advertising, and branding.

This 8th edition of CHAN marks several historic milestones:

It’s the first time the tournament is being jointly hosted by three countries; Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Only players who play in their home countries’ domestic leagues are eligible to compete.

The competition will now feature 19 national teams, up from the originally planned number.

CHAN 2024 also serves as a major test run for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the same trio of nations will co-host.

All eyes are now on East Africa as the region prepares to showcase its passion, talent, and readiness on the continental stage.
