Edson Mungyereza emerged as the overall winner of Round 3 of the National Autocross Championship held at Mwesigwa Resort in Kiruhura. Driving a Subaru GVB, Mungyereza posted a winning time of 12:42, finishing 30 seconds ahead of fellow Subaru GC8 driver Denis Bahizi, who settled for second place. Former national champion, Nasser Mutebi, came in third in a Mitsubishi Evo 9, trailing by 32 seconds.
Speaking after the event, Mungyereza expressed his delight at the victory, noting that the competition served as perfect preparation for his next challenge at Festino.
“This Autocross has helped me get a better feel of my car, and I am confident that during the fundraising sprint for Samuel Watendwa, I will be able to take on any competitor without fear,” he said.
The event was graced by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Nobert Mao, who commended the Uganda Motorsport community and pledged his continued support. He also confirmed his commitment to follow the sport to Gulu for the sixth round of the National Rally Championship next month.
“I love this sport, and don’t forget I come from a motorsport family. My brother Dusman once served as your president, and I too once drove Blick’s car. Now I am a Segam14 diehard, and we shall fight to the last,” Mao remarked.
All participating drivers were awarded medals and certificates of participation, marking a successful conclusion to the third round of the National Autocross Championship.
