EC adjusts regional conference dates ahead of 2025/26 elections

Kampala, Uganda – The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced adjustments to key activities on the roadmap for the 2025/2026 General Elections, specifically the dates for Regional Conferences to elect delegates representing non-unionized workers, older persons, and the National Youth Committees.

According to a statement released by EC Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the Regional Conferences for the election of non-unionized workers’ delegates to the national level, initially slated for Monday, August 25, 2025, have been pushed to Monday, September 1, 2025. The conferences will be conducted across the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western regions.

The Commission also revised the schedule for electing delegates to the National Council for Older Persons. These elections will now take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, instead of the earlier date of Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Similarly, the elections for the National Youth Committees have been rescheduled. Initially planned for August 27–29, 2025, the exercise will now be held from October 1–3, 2025.

Justice Byabakama urged all stakeholders to take note of the changes and actively participate in the conferences:

“This is, therefore, an appeal to stakeholders to take note of the changes and participate in the regional conferences to elect regional non-unionised workers’ delegates, regional older persons’ delegates, and national youth committees, and follow the guidelines that will be issued by the Electoral Commission.”

The Electoral Commission emphasized that the adjustments were made in consultation with stakeholders to ensure smooth preparations and inclusivity in the electoral process.

The rescheduled conferences are part of the broader roadmap leading to Uganda’s 2025/2026 General Elections, which the Commission has pledged will be conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
