CECAFA tournament to kickstart CHAN 2025 build-Up

With just weeks to go until the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosts Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are ramping up their efforts on and off the pitch to ensure a successful tournament for both their teams and the continent.

As part of their final preparations, the three host nations will join South Sudan in a CECAFA Four Nations Pre-CHAN Tournament, scheduled to take place at Karatu Stadium in Arusha, Tanzania.

Regional rivalries renewed

The warm-up tournament kicks off on July 24th, with two thrilling matchups on the cards:

  • Tanzania vs Kenya
  • Uganda vs South Sudan

Winners from the opening matches will meet in the final on July 27th, while the losing teams will square off in a third-place playoff on the same day.

For fans across East Africa, it’s a chance to get a taste of the action ahead of CHAN 2025—and for coaches, a vital opportunity to test formations, partnerships, and player fitness before the main event.

Training camps in motion

Uganda’s squad has already been hard at work in a non-residential training camp, now running for over ten days. Kenya and Tanzania have also summoned their squads and are putting in the final touches ahead of the CECAFA showdown.

Countdown to CHAN 2025

The 2025 CHAN tournament, which exclusively features players active in domestic leagues, will officially run from August 2nd to August 30th, making it a landmark edition as it becomes the first CHAN hosted across three nations.

For Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, this tournament is about more than football; it’s about regional pride, hospitality, and proving East Africa is ready to host continental sport at its best.
