Aucho, Mukwala drafted into Uganda Cranes squad ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The Uganda Cranes squad has received a major boost with the inclusion of team captain Khalid Aucho and striker Steven Dese Mukwala, who were added to the initial list on Saturday.

Earlier on Wednesday, head coach Paul Put had named a provisional squad of 28 players, notably leaving out the skipper and the forward. Put explained at the time that Aucho was still working on finalizing his club future.

However, in a statement released through its official channels, FUFA confirmed that the duo will join the squad on Monday, 1st September 2025.

“The Uganda Cranes squad will start assembling tomorrow at the FUFA Hotel in Kisaasi led by the 11 CHAN players. Latest additions Captain Khalid Aucho and Steven Mukwala are expected to join the team on Monday, bringing the total number to 30 players in the squad ahead of the two FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Mozambique on 5th and 8th September respectively,” reads the FUFA statement.

Uganda currently sits fourth in Group G with nine points as the battle for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup intensifies.
