21 aspirants cleared to battle for Masindi parliamentary seats

Masindi, Uganda — A total of 21 candidates have been nominated to contest for parliamentary seats in Masindi District following a two-day nomination exercise that began on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The exercise was conducted by Masindi District Election Administrator and Returning Officer, Kastrovas Kakaire, at the Electoral Commission offices in Kijungu, Masindi.
Day one nominations
Sixteen candidates were successfully nominated on the first day. They include:
- Kenneth Kiiza Nyedoha (NRM), incumbent MP for Bujenje Constituency
- Rogers Byamukama (NRM), Masindi Municipality
- Joab Businge (FDC), incumbent MP for Masindi Municipality
- Florence Asiimwe (NRM), incumbent District Woman MP
- Steven Wandera (NUP), Masindi Municipality
- Ronald Aled Akugizibwe (NRM), incumbent MP for Buruli County
Other candidates nominated on Day One included Lillian Kasangaki (Independent) and Shamim Kasemire, both vying for the District Woman MP seat.
In Bujenje Constituency, additional candidates were Wilson Tugume Wycliffe, Kasaija Rogers (NUP), and Patrick Paddy Kasumba (Independent).
For Buruli County, Julius Mugisa, Ismail Nyakojo, and Ongei Payroll, all Independents, were also nominated.
Day two nominations
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, four more candidates were nominated:
- Philip Kyamanywa (FDC), Bujenje Constituency
- Cosmas Byaruhanga (Independent), Masindi Municipality
- Karine Asiimwe (FDC), District Woman MP
- Frederick Banage (FDC), Buruli County

Candidates’ promises
Following his nomination, Kenneth Kiiza Nyedoha, the incumbent MP for Bujenje Constituency, pledged to extend electricity to all areas in his constituency that are yet to be connected.
Ronald Aled Akugizibwe, the incumbent MP for Buruli County, vowed to lobby for more secondary schools and advocate for upgrading health centre IIIs to IVs, particularly Kyatiri Health Centre, to improve healthcare services in his constituency.
Steven Wandera, the NUP candidate for Masindi Municipality, promised to champion the needs of ordinary citizens if elected.
Meanwhile, Joab Businge, the FDC incumbent for Masindi Municipality, said he has been an effective “voice of the people” in Parliament. He cited his efforts in lobbying for projects such as Kihuba Seed School, advocating for the establishment of Bunyoro University, and sponsoring students in various institutions.
Returning officer’s remarks
Speaking after the conclusion of the exercise, Kastrovas Kakaire, the Returning Officer for Masindi District, described the nomination process as successful.
He urged candidates to observe electoral guidelines and refrain from campaigning before the official campaign period, which runs from November 10, 2025, to January 13, 2026.
“No one is allowed to start campaigning before the scheduled date,” Kakaire emphasized.
